The new order is made in light of the emergence in Santa Clara County of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 and the 'imminent threat' that it poses to the health of vulnerable residents and the capacity of the healthcare system.
This is not the first time this year the West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Santa Clara County. The county detected cases and treated areas of Santa Clara and Sunnyvale at the end of August.
The new vaccination requirements are part of the state's push to get more people vaccinated as a wave of new cases, spurred by the ultra-contagious delta variant and cases among unvaccinated people, threatens to halt the state's progress in mitigating the virus' spread.
More businesses and workplaces could re-open in Santa Clara County as early as July 13, as long as new strict social distancing rules and other COVID-19 public health protocols are met, Santa Clara County officials announced today. (more…)
