In the South Bay, according to prosecutors, it’s being perpetrated by organized rings involving people locked up in local jails. 

Authorities say Andre William Furtado, a Watsonville resident, exploited and abused victims for years.

Jose Martinez was found and taken into custody later Sunday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving a stolen vehicle and hit-and-run.

The order stems from an appeal filed by one of several defendants accused of conspiring to exchange bribes for concealed gun permits

Attorneys for local insurance broker Harpreet Chadha and Apple security chief Thomas Moyer call the pay-to-play allegations baseless.

The charges name Apple’s Thomas Moyer, insurance broker Harpreet Chadha, Undersheriff Rick Sung and Capt. James Jensen. 

An additional indictment was handed down for Capt. James Jensen, who was among several defendants already charged in the case.  

Apollo Johnsen had been sentenced in absentia for sexually assaulting a young girl after he used a three-month continuance to flee.

A spokesman for Santa Clara County DA Jeff Rosen confirmed his office would drop the case based on “an insufficiency of evidence.”

An investigation estimates that the suspects had stolen more than $150,000 in wages from the victim and three other employees. 

The stay issued today by California’s 6th District Court of Appeals demands more information about the DA’s ties to one of the defendants.
