Regional Medical Center in East San Jose is expected to join Santa Clara Valley Healthcare system in early April.

Regional Medical Center is owned by for-profit HCA Healthcare, which earlier this month closed East San Jose's only Level II Trauma Center, citing financial pressure. The county pledged to keep it open if the hospital becomes part of the Santa Clara Valley Healthcare System.

The 250-bed Regional Medical Center, the only hospital in East San Jose, cited less demand as reasons for the cutbacks in services.

At an Oct. 25 rally, nurses accused the hospital of violating state-mandated nurse-to-patient rules, putting patients at risk and overworking nurses to the point of burn out.

Virgin of Guadalupe activities should be restricted to within the household or held virtually, county officials said.

The sites use a system in which people are assigned a testing time later in the day; all slots are often claimed within hours of availability.
