Santa Clara County leaders want eligible youth to get vaccinated, and they’re pulling out all the stops to make sure it happens. 

There have been 15 confirmed cases of the rare clotting event among nearly 8 million total doses administered in the U.S. All were women.

All people age 16 and older who live or work in the county are eligible and are encouraged to sign up for a vaccination appointment.

The vaccine rollout has been chaotic, according to news reports and hundreds of emails sent by The New York Times' California Today readers.

The state’s Department of Public Health issued a statement Tuesday urging a temporary pause on the vaccine’s administration.

Health officials said a significantly increased allocation of vaccine doses that allowed them to expand eligibility Tuesday.

Roughly 20 million vaccine doses have been administered statewide, state officials say.
