The U.S. Centers for Disease Control decided to list COVID-19 among the vaccines it recommends for children, but it's not clear what California will do.

Three sites, at the county Fairgrounds in San Jose, in San Martin and Mountain View, will offer vaccinations by appointment only this week.

Criminal charges were announced against a man and a woman in Santa Cruz County and three other Californians, as well as owners and executives of medical businesses, physicians and manufacturers of fake COVID-19 vaccination record cards with losses greater than $149 million.

Masks must be worn in all indoor public places in the state regardless of vaccine status, the state Department of Public Health said in a Jan. 5 evening post on Twitter.

With more than 90% of the state’s population in areas now with substantial or high transmission, the California Department of Public Health recommends universal masking in indoor public settings and in schools

California’s mask mandate requires people to wear a face covering at all times indoors or on public transit unless actively eating or drinking.

Bay Area health officials recommend limiting any Thanksgiving gathering to no more than three households.

The main difference between the city’s law and the county’s is that San Jose also requires masks for anyone standing in line at the store. 

Though that decision is still a couple weeks away, some residents expressed their concerns about enforcement and their constitutional rights.

No new deaths were reported, so the local death toll remains at 39. Meanwhile, the county reports that nearly 11,000 people have been tested.
