Eshoo Plays It Safe

Apparently, Democratic Congresswoman Anna Eshoo of Palo Alto decided to play it safe—rather than face her constituents head-on in a public town hall yesterday, she chose to host a phone-in discussion, where participants had to register first. Her staff could then screen questions from listeners, and potentially avoid all the nasty loonies that have plagued other town hall meetings across the nation.

Unlike many other members of Congress, who focused their recent town hall meetings on the contentious healthcare issue, Eshoo planned her meeting to discuss high-speed rail.

  1. “nasty loonies” my ass. Eshoo works for her constituents and should have the decency to tell them why they should go along with this nonsense. She could start by explaining why the CBO disagrees that socialized medicine will reduce the budget. Then she could tell us why it’s a good idea to have government bureaucrats making health care decisions like they do in England. Read about the NHS; do we really want it here?

    • “Socialized medicine,” “government bureaucrats,” “England,” etc. You got some of them but you left out some of the standard required cliches. I know you can do better. Keep trying.
BTW – Do you like having insurance “bureaucrats” making health care decisions for you like our current system dictates? I don’t and can’t wait until we scrap our current system and get one that puts health care ahead of profit.

    • The NHS works much like the Veteran’s Administration in the US. If it’s so terrible, why is it good enough for America’s veterans?

The NHS is not the best health care system in the world (that would be France), but it provides better results at a much lower cost than the US system. That’s why the majority of British people are very happy with it. (http://www.webmaster-talk.com/politics-and-religion-forum/183648-healthcare-in-britain-dispelling-the-myths.html) I have had personal experience with NHS treatment of serious conditions, and if the same were available here I would have no complaints.

I really can’t understand why people think it’s so wonderful to have their health care decisions made by insurance company bureaucrats whose main objective is increasing their profit margin.

  2. Contrary to what the gilbertarians are saying, this is probably a good thing. The last thing we need is people brandishing guns and intimidating others. Maybe if the right/libertarians didn’t throw a collective freak out over Obama, then maybe she’d be more inclined to hold a public meeting.
