Some people can’t wait to start campaigning. Case in point: Leslie Reynolds, a District 10 City Council candidate in San Jose. On a hot summer day last August, Reynolds erected a booth at the “Grande-licious” event in Almaden put on by 95120 Magazine. Her booth included a banner declaring her intention to run for Nancy Pyle‘s termed-out seat in 2012 as well as free glasses of lemonade featuring her campaign logo. (See Facebook for photos of the good family fun.) A couple months later, Reynolds says a friend of her son designed her sleek campaign website pro-bono. While Reynolds, a San Jose Unified school board member, says she has tried to comply with city rules by not accepting contributions until Dec. 9, that might not matter. None of her “out of pocket” expenses for the booth or the website (or the lemonade!) were reported in campaign disclosure forms. Instead, her only expense was a whopping $42 to set up a Wells Fargo bank account. This information comes on the heels of a complaint filed with the city’s Elections Commission in January against Reynolds by fellow D-10 candidate Johnny Khamis. In that complaint, Khamis alleged that Reynolds solicited contributions in a flyer sent out by the Silicon Valley Association of Republican Women before the kickoff date to collect cash. “Either she doesn’t understand the rules or wants to be oblivious to the rules,” he tells Fly. For now, though, Khamis says he won’t go back to the well and file another complaint.

Leslie Reynolds, a San Jose Unified school board member, actively campaigned for District 10’s City Council seat last August with a booth at an event called called “Grande-Licious” in Almaden.
So I guess Johnny Khamis already has the connections to get the fly on Leslie Reynolds. That’s all this tells me.

Neither candidate referenced in the aforementioned article is competent to become a Councilmember.

I can understand this comment as relates to Leslie Reynolds – SJUSD isn’t in the best financial state, and makes poor financial decisions, such as this one in 2009 http://cssrc.us/publications.aspx?id=6280. I’m not suggesting she got us into this mess on her own, but what has she done to stop the madness?
But Johnny Khamis seems to be considerably more competent as evidenced by his successful financial services business, as well as the various things he’s done to promote business growth in San Jose – the best way to make our city financially sound – as well as his creative cost/expense savings proposals that have been approved.
