Constant Comment

Raising two kids at a time is tough; that’s why parents of twins deserve sympathy. And that’s why Fly feels doubly sorry for District 1 San Jose Councilman Pete Constant and his wife, Julie—the parents of two sets of twins, plus a preschooler. Now Fly hears that Julie Constant has pulled papers to run for the Campbell Union Elementary School District board next fall.

So with Julie hot on the campaign trail (against three incumbents and six challengers, no less) and Pete busy slimming down at City Hall, who will be there to shuttle the Constant Army to Greek Dancing class?

“With the kids in school during the day, it gives her plenty of opportunity to work on things,” Pete assures. The formerly rotund Republican says he was as surprised as anyone to learn that his bride has entered the fray.

“She had made comments before that she didn’t understand how I could do politics, that it was something that she never wanted to do,” Pete says. “But I think she sees the school board a little differently.”

Julie says she and her hubby are peas in a pod, politically speaking.

“We’re as close as you can probably get for a couple,” she says. “99.9 percent of the time we agree on everything.”

The stay-at-home mom brings a bit of experience to the gig—she’s president of the Lynhaven Elementary School Parent Teacher Association.

  1. Oh, WOW!

    Someone who agrees 99.9% with a Republican . . . ON A SCHOOL BOARD?!!!

The earth will quake!  Planets will collide!

Teachers’ union teachers will make sour faces and throw conniptions!

  3. Does everyone know that Pete Constant is also collecting a disability retirement from SJPD? Yet he was recently pictured in the merc wrestling?  What a joke!!

    • Just ‘cause a fellow can horse around and basically pretend to wrestle (I believe his opponent was like a nine-year old boy), doesn’t mean he can perform the function of a police officer (although in fairness, you’d think they could find him a desk job of some sort).

  4. Are we really commenting on such a waste of black and white? Constant is hypocrite and the less we hear about his ridiculous extracurriculars the better.

Maybe we’ll be hearing next about his wrestling photoshoot. Oh, and he can have profitable business interests outside council but the IPA cannot? More hypocrisy from what should be a PART-TIME council.

  5. I found this article while performing my minimal research before I vote. What would normally be a simple nod to anyone concerned enough to run for the Campbell Union School District Board becomes a window into their character. Guilt be association isn’t fair but to say you agree with anyone “99.9 percent of the time” is something to ponder.

Is she lying, joking or just really bad at math?

  6. Nice republican family.  Dad has a wonderful disability pension as an ex cop, and income from city council, but with 5 kids, and many with braces, Mom is stepping up to the plate.  Who washes their plates?  I’m a guy, but you know….if a woman actually brings 5 children into this world, you would kinda think THEY would be her career.  Am I wrong here?????
