Vote Centers Open Saturday for San Jose City Council District 3 Election

The County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voters announced today that Vote Centers will open this weekend to serve voters participating in the April 8, City of San José, Council District 3 Special Election.

Starting Saturday, March 29, two Vote Centers will be open daily from 9am to 5pm through April 7 at the following locations:

  • Joyce Ellington Branch Library – Community Room

491 E. Empire St., San José, CA 95112

  • Olinder Community Center – Community Room

848 E. William St., San José, CA 95116

Additionally, a 4-day Vote Center will open on April 5 at:

  • Center for Employment Training – Banquet Room

701 Vine St., San José, CA 95110

All three locations will be available on Election Day, Tuesday, April 8, from 7am to 8pm.

“Our goal is to make voting as convenient, secure, and accessible as possible,” said Matt Moreles, Acting Registrar of Voters. “Whether voters prefer to cast their ballot early, drop off a Vote by Mail ballot, or need assistance with language support or accessible voting, our Vote Centers are ready to help.”

At each Vote Center, voters will have access to:

  • In-person voting
  • Ballot drop-off services
  • Language assistance
  • Curbside voting
  • Accessible voting machines
  • Same-day conditional voter registration and ballot issuance

There are multiple ways to cast a ballot. Voters can return their completed ballot using one of the following methods:

  • By Mail – Must be postmarked by April 8, 2025, and received by April 15, 2025
  • Official Ballot Drop Boxes – Secure drop boxes are available across San José, Council District 3 with ballots retrieved regularly by election staff
  • Vote Centers – Drop off a ballot in person during operating hours
  • At the Registrar of Voters’ Office

Voters can locate their nearest Vote Center or Official Drop Box by visiting: sccvote.org/votecenter or sccvote.org/dropbox.

Voters are encouraged to sign up for ballot tracking notifications at wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov. This free service provides real-time updates via text, email, or phone call when a ballot is mailed, received, and counted.

After the polls close at 8pm the first election results will be posted online at sccvote.org and the results will be updated every 45 minutes until all Vote Center ballots have been received and counted.
