Monday Night Live! returns for it’s 23rd installment next week at the San Jose Stage Company.
The production known for its salty, if not harmless, jabs at local politicians and the issues of the day, will be hosted this year by state Sen. Jim Beall (D-San Jose).
Beall is coming off a big primary victory against Assemblywoman Nora Campos (D-San Jose), and the two will face off again in the runoff. We can probably expect a few jokes about the latter’s spouse getting kicked in the ... at the Fairmont Hotel. Beall’s stand-up routine will face a challenge to upstage last year’s host, San Joe Councilman Raul Peralez, who broke out a Magic Mike-esque strip tease.
Peralez will join Michael Van Every, CEO of Republic Family of Companies, and fellow Councilman Don Rocha, who also has a history of losing his shirt. Van Every was a member of a Three Stooges act last year with developers Tom Armstrong and Ray Hashimoto.
The show promises to celebrate “the hidden talents of our elected officials and the current state of political affairs,” and proceeds will benefit The Stage. Reserved seats are $75, and preferred seats are $150. Donations are also accepted and fully tax-deductible.
The 7pm performance will be preceded by a cocktail reception at 5pm. Tickets can be ordered online or by phone at 408.283.7142.

Will there be any ethics violations, name-calling, hard looks, fist-fights, violence, or nudity?
Will any liberal politicians get kicked in the balls?
What a sad joke this event is. Bunch of politicians begging for attention.
Instead of this evening of self-promotion and ego inflation, why don’t these so called leaders do a “ride along” with the city workers who do the real work. Spend three hours actually contributing something, instead of patting each other on the back.
I totally agree. There is so much suffering right now and it makes a mockery out of the people’s desperate need for serious leadership.
And yes, I know, the event is a fundraiser for a good cause. But, I believe even more could be raised if people were given the option to pay for them to NOT perform!
$75 for reserved seats and $150 for preferred, I think I’ll wait for Cspan reruns next fall !

This event was always a favorite of former Planning Director Joseph Horwedel. I know Joe will be looking on from above wearing his Hawaiian shirt and drinking a Mai Tai. Your missed Joe.
