Shark 2008-2009 Season Will Be Played Entirely On Road

Team Wants to Forfeit Any Rights to Home Games

Hockey in San Jose may become a thing of the past next year if the San Jose Sharks get their way after submitting a unique request to the National Hockey League for an unprecedented season consisting entirely of an away schedule.

“I must admit this is a very strange request,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.  “But I’ll have to give it its proper due—it could be pure genius too.”

Many fans were upset after hearing the rumor circulated after last night’s game, another predictable and disappointing loss. “Oh my God, it’s not fair, a year without Dippin-Dots!?” said one strung-out user, obviously sugar crashing and jones’n for a fix of the delectable frozen sugar BBs.

But Shark executives say that ultimately it is not fair to make San Jose play in San Jose if they don’t want to.  And with one of the worst home records in the league, no one is excited about watching the mighty Sharks turn into chum for every visiting team at the Tank.

“Were not happy about it,” said Gallagher, a frequent Shark fan, as he smashed a grapefruit with a rolling pin.

But most fans know that things could be a lot worse.  In spite of the abysmal home record, the Sharks have amassed one of the best records on the road—16-4-3—and fortunately remain within face-washing distance of the top spot.

“With an entire season on the road,” explained Shark PR man James Sparaco, “I don’t think there is a team that could touch us and our date with destiny.”

  1. John:

Tell your brother to trade Marleau, replace Ron Wilson with Doug Wilson, and fire the idiot who writes those lame “two liner” Shark ads.

    Pete Campbell

  2. New info:

Tom McEnery was just appionted the new Chair for the committee for:

Santa Clara County Residents for “SMART GROWTH IN ALAMEDA COUNTY”…love his new slogan, great job Tom!

“LETS GROW JOBS FOR ALAMEDA COUNTY”…Support the new VTA “Sales Tax” in Santa Clara County. Help our neighbors grow.

It`s great to see someone wake up to the real opportunities.

  3. Kind of symbolic of the times in San Jose John!

First the Earthquakes, then the Races downtown, BEA Systems and BART to the East Bay Cities jobs from San Jose.

They all have one thing in common, they are all at San Jose`s expence.
And, how much did we pay for their new electronic reader board, was it more than what we paid to move the “Palm Trees”.

…and now we want to build a $10 billion dollar BART system for the growth of the “East Bay Cities” at Santa Clara Counties expense, with an annual operating expense of $150 million a year, moving our jobs out of town.

Sharks… kind of like a team without a city…remember the story of a “Man without a country”.

  4. Hey #3,
I’m a proud native of San Jose, military veteran, SJSU alumn, employee with county criminal justice…AND A PROUD RAIDERS FAN WHO ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE!  Why don’t you save your childish diatribe for Myspace!  As for the Sharks, perhaps the South Bay nightlife/leisure lifestyle is taking the edge off their home games.  Greg Jamison should force the Sharks to stay in hotels and have a curfew even during a homestand.  By the way, Joe Thornton is also a Raiders fan (stated his allegiance last year to NBC11’s Raj Mathai)…long live the “Trashy” people of the Bay Area!

  5. The Sharks are being very strategic in their games lately.  They are attempting to lose just the right amount of games so they end up in 8th place in the conference and do not have home ice advantage in the playoffs.  It will be their only chance (albeit a slim one) to win the Stanley Cup, playing more games on the road.  Note the 4 game losing streak where they went from first to third in the division.  They are making their downward move at just past the midpoint of the season.  Who ever said those Wilson’s are not smart.

  6. I spent Sunday @ Capers Loft dowtown watching both football games (I don’t have TV @ home).  I had parked my car in the lot between The Rep & The 88 condos being constructed, as I always do.  Much to my suprise and chagrin, when I went to leave the lot I discovered that they started charging for parking on weekends.  Yet another reason to keep dowtown a ghost town.  Way to go, mayor and council, and Abi, the parking czar!!!!  I’ll go back to watching sports @ Capers in Campbell, where the parking is ALWAYS FREE.
