Rants & Raves

  1. DUPLICITOUS LISA KRIEGER

Duplicitous Lisa Krieger wrote an article published in the Merc today which supports every point I make from time to time about the Merc—that it works to divide readers, and that it seeks to deceive our community. You may see the article in question here:

    DIVIDING ITS READERS

Krieger’s article is a remarkably divisive article seeking to cause trouble between Asian Americans and European Americans. Krieger has always sought to put wedges between demographics even when there is not really a demographic-based dispute.

That’s part of the problem in Cupertino—the Merc has thoroughly brain-washed readers that Cupertino is hopelessly split into two demographic-based camps.  Nothing could be further from the truth in Cupertino, and nothing could be further from the truth in the current dust-up with UC-Berkeley’s shift in admission policy.  To accuse UC-Berkeley of seeking to benefit “whites” at the expense of “Asians” is really a stretch.

And notice how the writer gave a voice to several Asian Americans to bash UC-Berkeley and Euro-Americans, but she allowed none of the latter to have a voice in the matter. To the Merc, the diverse white Californian peoples are just a silenced punching bag. This one-sided reporting is solid evidence for the loathing (or self-hate) felt for the Euro-American demographic by Krieger and Merc editors.

Merc, if you must divide us into contentious disputants, how about allowing us a voice?

Or is it your policy to shut up European Americans when they are slandered on your pages?

    DECEIVING OUR COMMUNITY

The fundamental deception in the writer’s dishonest reporting is that she twists the meaning of “whites.”

In fact, and an honest reporter would have made this clear, “white” is frequently a default category, varying from agency to agency as to meaning and numbers.

For example, when you read federal government hate crime statistics, you will note that there are zero American Latino perpetrators.  This is because American Latino perpetrators are sorted into two categories by the federal government with “black” getting about 10% of their hate crimes, and “white” getting about 90% of their hate crimes by default.  The Merc has consistently lied to its readers about this phenomenon, too.

The related phenomenon in the UC-Berkeley matter, that Krieger lies about by silence, is that the category “whites” is extensively used at UC-Berkeley as the default classification for all the European, Semitic, Turkic, Persian, and North African-American communities. “Whites” is, indeed, used in the UC-Berkeley issue as this kind of default label whether desired or not by those so labeled.

So this means that Jewish immigrants from Israel, and Palestinian, Jordanian, Turkish, Persian, and North African immigrants from Southwest Asia are lumped into the “whites” category whether they want it or not at UC-Berkeley.

A mildly amusing news story from three or four years ago featured an immigrant from Egypt who objected mightily to being considered “white” in America because it barred him from various programs designed to give different “non-white” demographics a leg up.

And when Jews, Germans, Russians, Irish, Arabs, Persians, and North Africans at UC-Berkeley are jammed into the “white” category, this smothers their diversity within a category (“white”) that is consistently lied about in the Merc as having no diversity whatsoever.

    CONCLUSION

The article by Lisa Krieger is loaded with adjectives, inflammatory quotations, and unexplained categories of discourse, and it works hard to smother “white” diversity to divide us and to deceive us.  Don’t be fooled again by this bigotry.

  2. Wow D.W.!

Over the last week and a half we saw some interesting letters to the editor at the Merc.  The topic of interest: transforming Moffett Field into a world-class airport.  Some, like myself, are for creating a new airport at Moffett; one that could even replace the current SJC.  Others were against, most notably citizens of Sunnyvale and W. San Jose, who would see increased airline traffic (and noise) over their neighborhoods.

My long term solution: study building a new approach runway at Moffett Field.

This new runway would run west/northwest in the northern section of the airfield.  It would begin in north Sunnyvale near Caribbean Dr. and Mathilda Ave., parallel just north of First Ave., proceed through the Moffett Field Golf Course, and end near the northeastern corner of NASA Ames.

This new runway would ensure that approaching airliners would fly over less populated/heavily commercialized areas of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, not over Sunnyvale proper and W. San Jose.  The two existing runways would be used for take-offs over the bay only.  Wind patterns off the bay are also conducive for this new approach.

Chicago O’ Hare is undergoing something similar by building new runways to accomodate growing passenger volume.

There could be issues with some eminent domain required, encroachment of bay wetlands, and the closure of Moffett Golf Course.

But we need to start looking long term, 10 to 20 years out.  This new runway option provides an opportunity for Moffett to become a world-class airport WITHOUT upsetting the citizens of Sunnyvale, Mtn. View, and West San Jose.  A win-win all around.

  3. Mass transit systems are the best factor these days in arguing for stadium construction.

    49ers Stadium for Santa Clara

Professional Baseball and Basketball for San Jose.

The light rail makes all three stadiums well within the grasp as access to mass transit is the most significant argument for stadiums these days.

  4. Leave it to poor me to complain about the stupid VTA, but I really wish bus drivers would turn the ac on more with this warm weather. Relying on the windows for air when the bus 1. stops at every freaking intersection 2. Stops at lots of red lights is really annoying.

  5. The Guadalupe River Park Trail is surprisingly underutilized. I passed only about 10 people this morning traveling from San Fernando St. to Trimble Rd. It’s really an undiscovered community asset.

The large tanks under construction on the east side of 101 by the airport are an ugly addition. Exiting SJC, visitors are now welcomed by these ugly tanks (if they stay as currently built) and the most littered section of the freeway within 50 miles.

  6. Jesus Christ its impossible to make intelligent rants (which is what the thread is supposed to be for) about the VTA without trolls who have the intelligence of a rock from surfacing.

  7. #10- Amanda,
Welcome to SJI, the land of the anonymous critics. Keep posting, some of us do care about what you have to say on the topic of the VTA.

  8. #10:  where is surfacing, and how do you know the intelligence level of rocks from surfacing?  Have you communicated with a rock from surfacing?  Your slur on the intelligence of rocks from surfacing could anger them enough for them to launch a full scale invasion of our planet.  If we all die, it’s on you, Dude!

  9. Amanda,
Still so prickly. A little sense of humor might help. Geez.

    Jaymock,
surfacing is the next planet out from rearingtheiruglyheads. The rocks are much smarter there.
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares…
