The city will start holding its annual community budget meetings this week. The forums give residents a chance to weigh in on how they want to see public money divvied up in the coming fiscal year.
Before heading into the meetings, the public can read up on the city manager’s five-year budget forecast and the mayor’s initial March budget message recommendations (which the City Council approved last month).
City Manager Ed Shikada is expected to release his proposed 2014-15 operating budget later this week.
On top of the community meetings, the council will host budget sessions at City Hall throughout the coming month. Elected leaders will then share their budget proposals and Mayor Chuck Reed will release his final recommendations by the end of May. The final deadline to adopt a next-year budget is in June, before the end of the fiscal year.

Can we vote to get rid of the IPA, that will save us at least 250K a year!
Every year this ridiculous charade of letting the taxpayers blow off a little steam and then passing a budget that fits the needs of the politicians and the interest groups who support their election.
