March is going out like a lion, not like a lamb, with the past week being rainy and dreary around here. Let’s see if the news has been the same.
You’ll notice a new button up there on the bar at the top. It says Mayor’s Race and will take you to the page where we have collected guest blog entires written by mayoral candidates. Give it a shot right now! On second thought, give it a shot right after you finish reading the my column.
In the Metro, William Dean Hinton turns in the first detailed look at a candidate for the District 7 seat recently vacated by Terry Gregory. He profiles Madison Nguyen’s bid to be the first Vietnamese councilmember and says she is considered the front-runner.
The Mercury News notes the odd reaction of the Mayor’s office to a request for phone logs. We keep things informal here around San Jose Inside when it comes to writing down phone messages too. Of course, being a web site, we really don’t get any phone calls, so I think it’s OK in our case.
In the Rose Garden Resident, Mary Gottschalk reports that Lou’s Village may not make it to 2006 to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The restaurant may be replaced by a development of townhouses from Shea Homes. It may re-open in another location, though, so we don’t need to panic. Yet.
Over in the Willow Glen Resident, Meghan O’Hare gives us the scoop on the area’s parking woes and the steps that local businesses and the city are taking to deal with the issue.
In a bid to keep us apprised of all the local landmarks that may be changing hands, Mary Gottschalk also writes about Andy’s Pet Shop, which is for sale and listed at $176,850.
Finally, no matter how chilly it gets, it might be wise to be wary of the chili, as Chuck Carroll and Sandra Gonzales remind us in the Merc.
I like Wendy’s chili
it’s never made in haste
I can’t put my finger on it
but it’s got a special taste
The cook’s a real magician
he chops veggies like a pro
He’s adds a special something
but won’t let anybody know
I asked him to rate his efforts
he answered with a laugh
Brought his hands up with his answer
and scored it nine and a-half
The problem in Willow Glen is that there is a lot of these parking spaces reserved by businesses that are mostly unused. Open them up.
Even though Frustrated finfan doesn’t let us know his real name, I’ve got to thank him for that poem. A beauty!
It’s a shame to see Lous Village go. It has a lot of history as you can see by the photos at the restaurant.
… the latest hit piece from the Merc
“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fundraising tour hit San Jose on Thursday evening, and while his wealthy backers dined inside the Fairmont Hotel, more than 1,000 nurses, teachers and others who oppose his agenda clamored outside, waving signs and generally raising a ruckus.”
“But while many at the protest were willing to speak publicly about their concerns, those connected to the fundraiser were absent.”
So no one saw anyone connected to the fundraiser?
I think we’ve just discovered how to get people downtown!
We can also charge them a sign fee before allowing them carry the signs with the clever slogans.
Psst. Rumsfeld will be at the Mariott next week.
Metro this week profiled Madison Nguyen, who will be the one of the first Vietnamese politicians elected to the San Jose City Council
This will be a nationally important happening, and we should cheer him on!!
Just FYI – Madison is a woman More info on her site for those who are interested.

What a joke- #7.
Shelley, good for you!!
I apologize and I thank you for putting her website on her for all of us. Madison’s site shows how well suited she is to take up the reins of city council. Indeed, Zoe Lofgren, Charlotte Powers, Patty Mahan, Kevin Moore, and others have become major players coming from college boards and school boards to city council. Nancy Pyle as well, and given Darren’s help, and also Greg Seller’s who has also been a good fellow when it comes to giving the credit to others.
The untold story of the campain season was how Anna Song with the help of many in labor, and few of us in the field, managed to turn the tide and get back in.
btw, I do appreicate reading about how Lisa Gillmor did help in a big way the major business development out by Annews. All I could read in 1996 was how Lisa was not friendly to modern developments. Guess that was someone else’s opinion back then, just refined. Lisa did talk to me a couple of years ago about that project, and the chronology she offered did coincide to mine about which of thousand fathers helped.
I wish I could apologize for being an informed citizen. I have no ties to the campaign, just interested in the potential make-up of the City Council. Thanks for the kind words though and keep it positive #8
