The Golden State Warriors will swing by San Jose’s City Hall on Monday for a photo-op with their 2015 NBA Championship trophy.
Mayor Sam Liccardo will present a proclamation at 11:30am Monday at the City Hall Rotunda to honor the team’s commitment to the city ahead of their preseason game against the Toronto Raptors at SAP Center.

During a pre-game reception and at halftime of the game, the Warriors will honor two South Bay individuals and three community organizations who have elevated the San José community through the Warriors and the San José Mayor’s Office’s Champions in the Community program.
In partnership with the San José Mayor Sam Liccardo’s Office, the Warriors launched the Champions in the Community platform to highlight members of the San José community who have made a lasting impact through the pillars of education, health and fitness and social responsibility. The honorees include Downtown Streets Team Manager of Client Services Chad Bojorquez and Baker Elementary School Teacher Debbie Pavlos, along with representatives from 1000 Hearts For 1000 Minds, Work2 Future’s SJ Works: Summer Youth Employment Program and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s workshop around the My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
“I’m thrilled to welcome the Warriors to the SAP Center in San José,” said Mayor Liccardo. “The Warriors organization is dedicated to making a lasting impact in Bay Area communities and I’m grateful to the Warriors for launching the Champions in the Community program to recognize the role that volunteers, nonprofits and businesses play in serving our community.”
In addition to the Champions in the Community platform, the Warriors have donated 300 tickets to give local youth from San José the opportunity to attend the game. The Warriors have also leveraged their community partnerships and relationships with local nonprofits to engage the team’s fan base in San José with a variety of new community opportunities. With support from Kaiser Permanente, the Warriors Community Foundation and new community partner Playworks, the Warriors Get Fit program will engage nearly 17,000 students in 29 schools in the Silicon Valley this season. The Warriors are also expanding the team’s Read To Achieve literacy program to impact 20 South Bay schools, in partnership with Ross Stores and Warriors Community Foundation grantee Reading Partners. In addition, the Math Hoops math literacy program was launched at Sheppard Middle School in San José, joining over 90 sites across the Bay Area with support from the Warriors Community Foundation and Learn Fresh.
The Warriors have actively involved the San José community for years through the team’s youth basketball programs and educational events. Warriors Basketball Camp hosts over 1,100 local boys and girls at camps and clinics throughout the year at San José’s Evergreen Valley High School and Oak Grove High School, as well as Monta Vista High School in Cupertino and West Valley College in Saratoga. The Warriors also played the regular season in San Jose in 1996-97 when their home arena in Oakland was being renovated.
