Says He Has Looked To Rev. Jeremiah Wright For Political Advice, Not Statistical Guidance
San Jose City Councilman Forrest Williams on Wednesday denounced inflammatory remarks from his former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who has railed against San Jose for being unsafe and not-large, and accused its leaders of supporting sprawl.
“The person I saw Monday was not the person I saw this Wednesday,” said a defensive Mr. Williams. “I categorically denounce any statement that disparages the U.S. Census or the FBI’s yearly publication, Crime in the United States.”
Councilman Williams is, of course, referring to a controversial speech delivered at the US Conference of Mayors, whereby Reverend Wright suggested that San Jose might have overtaken Detroit as the largest unsafe city in America and fallen behind New York in population.
“I have been unambiguous about my condemnation of his faulty statistics,” said an unflagging Mr. Williams. “He does not do my numerical analysis; I have based my life solely on his politics, not his fuzzy math.”
He was also clear to point out that he did not support sprawl, and only supported the Coyote Valley Housing Group’s plan to develop 7200 acres in south San Jose as a model of environmental, social and fiscal sustainability.
Needless to say, the controversy has threatened Councilman Williams’s membership in the San Jose/Santa Clara Clean Water Financing Authority as well as his honor as recipient of the Edna M. McGhee memorial Award for Volunteer Services.
But where does Mr Williams stand on Pastor Wright’s allegation that the Light Brown Apple Moth is actually a sinister invention gone wrong, created by Bill Gates in a secret laboratory in Redmond with the intended target not our apple crops, but our Apple IPods?
Number 1 that was funny. Great article John but will Forrest change his mind again. Obama did so will Forest. He will beg for his position back on the financing Authority. They promised they would teach him simple math.
John,
So funny and insightful. Your talents are wasted here; you should really really really be national. Please please…go national…somewhere, anywhere…we will suffer without you but the country needs you. Do us…ur..I mean the nation a service. Go young man.
