Green Appointed to Santa Clara County Board of Education Seat

When the music stopped and a vote was taken to add a new trustee to the Santa Clara County Office of Education board Wednesday night, two elected officials must have realized they lost this round of political musical chairs.

County Supervisor George Shirakawa and San Jose Councilmember Xavier Campos actively lobbied board trustees to have Javier Gonzalez fill the county trustee seat left vacant by Craig Mann’s resignation. But when the six trustees remaining on the board took their vote, Darcie Green, who works in government affairs for Kaiser Permanente, got the nod. Sources tell San Jose Inside that Green did plenty of lobbying on her own behalf to win the seat.

To move over to the county seat, she will be forced to relinquish her spot on the Alum Rock school board. Javier Gonzalez received a vote from trustee Anna Song, and Kendra Fujino has the support of trustee Julia Hover-Smoot, according to the Mercury News. Green received votes from Leon Beauchmann, Michael Chang, Grace Mah and Joseph Di Salvo.

    • What’s your point?

Darcie Green has an impressive record of community involvement, including her service on the Alum Rock school board.  She will certainly bring dedication, diligence, and commitment to her new role on the Board of Education, based on evidence provided by her prior service to the community.

Implying anything else is a cheap shot at best.

  1. While I have no comments on the actual appointment, not knowing the individuals who applied, I’m concerned as a taxpayer in SC County about the lobbying process.  On what planet is lobbying in the best interests of the children served by the County Office of Education?
Too bad Craig Mann didn’t resign before the filing deadline. I would have preferred to see this seat filled by an actual election, with voters making the decision, instead of board members subjected to lobbying.
