California, Washington and Oregon Pledge to Protect Abortion Patients from Other States

Gov. Gavin Newsom and the governors of Oregon and Washington issued a joint statement today condemning the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to end constitutional abortion protections.

The agreement between the three states outlines their commitment to protect patients from other states seeking reproductive health care as well as safe access to contraceptive and abortion access.

Under the agreement announced June 24, the states would also refuse to cooperate with states that have laws punishing either people seeking reproductive health care or doctors who provide reproductive care services like abortion.

“The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn half a century of settled precedent and rescind the U.S. Constitution's protection of reproductive freedom jeopardizes safe access to reproductive healthcare across the United States,” Newsom, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said in the signed statement.

Friday's decision by the Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization rolled back the court's 1973 ruling that the Constitution broadly gives women the individual liberty to terminate a pregnancy.

As a result of the ruling, several states are expected to pass sweeping bans on abortion that do not include exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest or cases in which the mother's life is at risk.

Some states, including Texas and Louisiana, have already passed legislation or are considering doing so that would charge residents who induce or perform an abortion with a felony and up to life in prison - even if the procedure is not performed in their state of residence.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta affirmed his support for abortion access in the state and also committed to protecting those seeking reproductive health care.

“We'll keep fighting to strengthen and expand access to safe and legal abortion,” Bonta said in a statement. “As attorney general, I will use the full force of the law and the full authority of my office to protect reproductive healthcare for every person who seeks it in California. Abortion remains a legally protected right in our state and, in California, we won't backslide.”

  1. Pretty Sad, if CA and these declining DEM led states chase manufacturing jobs and law abiding residents out of their trash & crime ridden cities and states –
They need to make up “business” somehow.

So, they Join in League, to be like other Communist dictatorships to excel at ending human life, all the way up to the point of birth.
“The US finds itself in the company of China, North Korea and Vietnam as some of the only countries that permit elective abortions after 20 weeks gestation”

CA, OR, WA continue to be on the wrong side of Science, Humanity and History.

Pretty sad, to want to be a state known for excelling in the business of how to end human life.

  2. Children of all ages will find appealing what the three governors, acting as Three Stooges of judicial activism and other contemporary liberal pathology, have said.
