Elon Musk, Reid Hoffman and other tech billionaires, many of whom are part of the “PayPal Mafia,” are openly brawling with one another over politics as tensions rise in the presidential campaign.

The move capped a chaotic five days at the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company.

Mark Zuckerberg has used Meta’s might to push Threads to a fast start — but that may only work up to a point. In less than a day, Threads appeared to have taken the crown as the most rapidly downloaded app ever, easily outstripping ChatGPT. The newly released companion to Instagram aims at offering users an alternative to Twitter. 

The new announcement is the company’s second round of cuts within the past half year. In November, Meta laid off more than 11,000 people, or about 13% of its work force at the time.

Facebook’s Oversight Board said the ongoing risk of violence “justified” the suspension.
