The Golden Chanterelle may be the state's new official mushroom, but the East Bay Regional Park District is reminding residents that some fungi are best appreciated for their beauty, not taste. The park district sent out its annual wild mushroom warning Friday as winter rains spur spores and mushrooms begin popping up. There are two kinds that both people and pets need especially avoid, and their names say it all: the death cap (Amanita phalloides) and the western destroying angel (Amanita ocreata).

Housing developments will now be more streamlined with less red tape, density laws can be overruled in the interest of housing, and institutions like colleges or religious organizations can now use portions of their property to build housing.

Santa Clara County is getting a piece of a national, multibillion-dollar opioid settlement against drug manufacturers, distributors and retailers for their role in creating a state and national crisis. 

The bribes included $55,000 in payments for holiday parties a San Francisco public works manager hosted for friends, political supporters and select public works employees, from October 2017 through January 2020.  

To combat the presence of fentanyl in the correctional facility, Jonsen said he has taken “extraordinary” measures, including conducting multiple facility searches, more frequent welfare checks and numerous K-9 searches.
