Rescheduled Low-Liccardo TV Debate Is Friday Evening

NBC Bay Area/KNTV, Telemundo 48/KSTS, and KQED will host a live, one-hour debate between former San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo and State Assemblymember Evan Low at 7pm Friday. The debate will originate from the NBC Bay Area/Telemundo 48 studios in San Jose and will air across the stations’ over-the-air and digital platforms.

The 16th Congressional District opponents had been scheduled to debate last Wednesday, but it was canceled when Liccardo withdrew less than seven hours before the event, citing laryngitis. The candidates’ teams agreed to the new date last Thursday.

The rescheduled debate comes as the campaign is heating up as ballots were mailed out this week, with new endorsements and home-stretch fundraising.

The two Democrats are vying for the Silicon Valley seat currently held by Rep. Anna Eshoo who announced in December she would not seek re-election after 30 years.

“Knocking on doors across our community and participating in nearly 100 meet-and-greets and several debates has been the best part of campaigning, but it’s taken its toll on my vocal cords. I’ve unfortunately lost my voice, and had to cancel three meet-and-greets yesterday, and pull out of a scheduled debate with NBC this evening,” Liccardo said on X on Oct.3.
