Evan Low Appointed to Asst. Majority Whip in State Assembly

(Sacramento, CA) Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) named her leadership team today, a few days before the first session of the new legislature that was elected earlier this month. Speaker Atkins appointed Assemblymember-elect Evan Low (D-San Jose) as Assistant Majority Whip.

“I am honored and excited to assume the role of Assistant Majority Whip under Speaker Atkins’ leadership,” said Assemblymember-elect Low. “Speaker Atkins has the foresight and values we need to prioritize including how to continue to save resources for difficult times and how to invest in our State to improve the lives of all Californians as the economy improves. I look forward to getting to work on day one.”

When Low is sworn-in on December 1, he will be the seventh-highest ranking officer of the Assembly and will be the youngest Asian American to be elected in state history. As Assistant Majority Whip, Assemblymember-elect Low will serve in the Democratic leadership of the Assembly and will help garner support for legislation in the State Capitol.

Evan Low is the newly elected Assemblymember for the 28th District that encompasses the cities of Cupertino, Campbell, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and portions of San Jose, including the Rose Garden, Willow Glen, Almaden Valley and West San Jose. Prior to his election to the state legislature, Low served twice as mayor and on the city council in Campbell, California.
