Mayor Chuck Reed Basks in the Sun on His Roof

When the Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger signed his Million Rooftops initiative back in 2006, one of the first people to jump on board was San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, who said the city would take 100,000. The following year, Reed announced his Green Vision to reduce the city’s nonrenewable energy use to zero by 2022.

Now the mayor is bringing his initiative much closer to home—his own home, in fact. Yesterday, he climbed up on his roof to install the last of a series of solar panels there. The 24 panels form a 4.2 kilowatt photovoltaic solar array that fits together “like Legos,” according to the mayor.

Now Reed is anxious to get the go ahead to turn on the new system from PG&E and watch how his electric meter actually runs backwards.

  1. It’s all good:  solar on the roof, solar on parking lots and large fields like utilities are starting to do.

    Here’s a though…

Under the link “Urban Rail” there is draft outline of a Research Design and Demonstration Project (RD&D) given to SCCVTA…. price tag about the same as one hybrid bus.

Are there stimulus dollars for such?  Could this seed jobs?  Help the Bay Area improve its Green standing?

    Thoughts?
