Single Gal and New Year’s Resolutions

In honor of the New Year, I thought I would come up with New Year’s resolutions for other people since setting them for myself has proven to be as successful as the Pavilion Shops. So, here is what I envision that a few select people should vow to change in 2007.

Ron Gonzales
I won’t leverage my position as ex-mayor to get rich.  I need a new challenge!

Chuck Reed
I will make the PG&E bill at City Hall public and institute the Govern by Candlelight Initiative to save money.

Sam Liccardo
I will check my MySpace account more than once a month because Manny Diaz might still be sending me dirty pictures.

Joe Guerra
I will rent “Thelma and Louise” again for my last-ditch plan to help Ron and me escape the authorities if we are convicted.

Nora Campos
I will make sure I stop using the Ex-Convict Work Furlough program at the county jail to do my hiring.

Norcal
We will find a new pawn in our game since all of our “friends” have been ousted.

The County Supervisors
We will not let fast-talking L.A. developers wine and dine us into signing on to bad ideas.

Blanca Alvarado
I will scrap my magnificent plans for the new Kazhakstanian Heritage Plaza.

Michael Mulcahy
I will go out in public once without face powder and hair gel. (I will make sure it’s night though.)

San Jose City Council
We will work together to make sure that San Jose is our first priority—not our pocketbooks, not big-time developers, and not special interests.

I hope the rest of you are as good at keeping your resolutions as the people above!

Happy New Year!

  1. I get the distinct impression that you are trying to compete with John McE’s satire.  You’re better off commenting in another area.  We really need to get past LAST YEAR’S election and on to new areas of interest. Norcal, Gonzales and crew are in the hands of the courts now.
Let’s help Chuck fit into his new robes and watch the City move off into the sunshine of a new year with fresh new leadership.

  2. Hey Single Gal,

I finally made it into Chic Chateau on Third Street.  Part of the establishment is a tea room, really a cute place for women to meet.  You might want to go see for yourself.

  3. I must tell you that this is your best work yet!
thanks for the laugh this morning, the CAMPOS & ALVARADO are really funny!
and to # 1 get over yourself you’re not that important.
It’s a new year lets have some fun and these two are slow moving targets<

  4. We should certainly move on but we should also NEVER forget what Gonzales and crew did to our city. Don’t forget, some of those people who allowed this to happen are still in office so we are not in the clear yet.

  5. Hey Single Gal:

One of the recommendations that I made while serving on the Reed Transition Team was that the city create a citizen-based Redevelopment Agency Oversight Committee.  The committee would make recommendations to the council/RDA Board and would be in a unique position to blow the whistle on some of the bad deals that are pursued by the city.  Such a committe would operate like the planning commission and would provide the people of San Jose with a chance to see that RDA money is directed towards projects that serve the needs of the people of San Jose rather than the needs of out of state interests.
(Also advanced by the Govt Reform and Ethics Committee:  Gift limit reduced from $50 to ZERO!  No one-on-one meetings with lobbyists ( a member of city staff must also be present).  More protection for city employee whistleblowers.  A cost benefit analysis must be presented before any project seeking a public subsidy can be approved.  The citizens of San Jose will have equal access to any benefit/privilege enjoyed by the members of the city council.  And many more…)

    Happy New Year!
    Pete Campbell

  6. You missed Tony “Abramoff” Arreola.  He and Ron will probably conspire to make more money while making license plates in the County jail.

  7. Curious –

    Here you go!

COUNCILWOMAN’S FORMER AIDE ORDERED TO DO VOLUNTEER WORK FOR TAKING LOST PROPERTY

    Source:—John Woolfolk, Mercury News
A former aide to San Jose City Councilwoman Nora Campos charged in October with taking a briefcase that a consultant left behind at City Hall pleaded no contest Wednesday and was sentenced to 40 hours of volunteer work. Christine Burnett, 54, of La Selva Beach, who resigned Dec. 3 as Campos’ chief of staff after five years with the city, was charged with a single misdemeanor count of appropriating lost property, which carries a maximum $1,000 fine and six months in county jail.
