Is Cheney a “Terrorist?”

During the Feb. 5 edition of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann,” the host offered the following: “[Dick Cheney] has caused far more terror in this country in the last seven years than any terrorist.”

Olbermann’s rant was in response to the warnings and concerns that Cheney had expressed a few days earlier during an interview with Politico.com.

OLBERMANN:  “You, Mr. Cheney, you terrified more Americans than did any terrorist in the last seven years.” (Source: MSNBC.com - transcripts 2/5/09).

As unpopular Bush and Cheney were, does anyone really believe as Olbermann does, that Cheney “caused more terror in this country…than any terrorist?”

Your post answers your question. Obviously unhinged people like Keith Olbermann believe it. You seem to get that sentiment on Angry Left websites like dailykos as well.

Back in the real world, people can see a difference between a real terrorist, who murders people, and a politician who makes bad or unpopular decisions. Wait till the messiah has been office for a few years. He’ll make his mistakes and the US public will see that he doesn’t walk on water.

  2. YES!  He continually told us that we would be attacked if we didn’t go along with Bush/Cheney policies; that preserving civil liberties will lead to American deaths; etc.  These tactics terrorized Americans into voting against their economic and social interests over 6 years.  It was a deliberate tactic, along with the silly color-coded terror levels, to make sure people remained scared so they could “protect” us.

  3. Talk about not relevant to San Jose….I guess this site needs some postings from the right once in a while to give the regulars something to agree with.

It’s all very simple. Whether Olbermann believes Bush and Cheney are “terrorists” is beside the point.  His show gets viewers from an anti-Bush, anti-Republican audience and that’s what he’s gonna appeal to.

On the flip side, you can probably turn on FOX News and see Hannity or some other talking head say something similar or worse about Obama or the Clintons.

  4. Of course not Pete. Olbermann should have stuck with ESPN. He is a raging mouthpiece of the far left beast who is now a joke punchline at ESPN parties.

2- Were you really “terrorized” by Cheney?Airport color codes raise your blood pressure? Let me guess, you believe the NSA is listening to your phone converstions too huh? Like the Bush policies or not, we suffered ZERO attacks on US soil after 9/11 largely thanks to these policies. As well Bin Laden, and 99% of other terrorists, would murder you and your loved ones given the chance, Cheney would understand your complaints/position as a part of your rights as a citizen. Slight difference…

  5. Well, Bushco certainly did inspire at least one act of terror in the U.S.:

Jim Adkisson shot and killed 2 people in a Unitarian church wounding several others for their participation in the “Liberal movement.”

Cheney didn’t call for the hit, but the virulent right-wing insanity of shock jocks and nationalist fervor of the bushies certainly played a part.

  6. #6 Good point.

I’m in favor of Cheney getting a fair hearing in an impartial forum. Let’s have a Truth and Reconciliation Commission on the model that was successful in South Africa. No revenge, no criminal charges, but let the light of day reveal the facts.

The JFK assassination was more than 40 years ago, but the resulting fog of doubt and distrust still remaining continues to poison the American political dialog. Plus of course Dr. King, Robert Kennedy and the other assassinations of that period.

Let’s not create another generation of conspiracy theorists. Let’s choose facts over coverups.

  7. Of course Cheney should not be compared to those who killed innocent floor workers at the World Trade Center.

Cheney is guilty of many things, but hyperbole like this is inexcusable.

  8. Then, there’s the opinion of Australia’s Prime Minister, John Howard, who is reputed to have said:

“Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation’s mosques. Quote:

‘IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.’

‘This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom’

‘We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!’

‘Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.’

‘We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.’

‘This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, ‘THE RIGHT TO LEAVE’.’

‘If you aren’t happy here then LEAVE. We didn’t force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.’
