Check out this video Jason Wallach made for the East San Jose group Somos Mayfair. It chronicles one of the most interesting get-out-the-vote drives we’ve seen around these parts—a campaign that includes activists in “Luchador” wrestling masks.
The vid portrays such heroes as Super Voto Latino, Super Mama and Super Futuro, doing battle with the black-clad villains Apatio and Discriminacion.
Somos Mayfair is a citizens group on a mission to “build a vibrant community, and to contribute to the larger people’s movement for justice.” The group has been active since 1997, when neighbors got together to hire crossing guards, fix sidewalks, cover graffiti with murals and build a community garden. The group also runs literacy and ESL classes for adults and children, and has enrolled more than 1,000 children in health insurance programs.

The Guy in the white shorts is either George Shirikawa or our ex-Mayor. I’d recognize that tie anywhere.

When we will get past the latino centrism and worship and understand that we are all AMERICANS. You despise Team USA at the USA vs Mexico (insert latin country) and drive home to your bay area addresses cursing the racism of this country. Ironic I would say….
