Police Union Steps Up, Starts Fund for Children Orphaned by Homicides

The San Jose Police Officers Association, with help from the Victim Assistance Fund, started a foundation this week to help support three children who witnessed the double homicide of their parents. Marybel Jimenez, 27, and Pedro Jimenez, 28, were killed earlier this week at their North Seventh Street home. Neighbors heard the shots and came running to find the three children, ages 8, 7 and 4.

Members of the public wishing to make a donation may do so online at the POA’s website. Checks can also be sent to the following mailing address:
 SJPOA, 1151 N. Fourth Street
, San Jose, CA 95112. Make checks payable to:
SJPOA - CF and indicate “Jimenez” on the memo line. According to the POA’s website, SJPD is also holding an internal fundraiser to help the children.

The suspect in the case, Pedro Castellon Medina, 31, is still at large. Police think he may be fleeing towards Mexico under another identity. He is considered armed and dangerous.

The double-homicide marked the 21st and 22nd homicides of the year. After the stabbing in downtown San Jose on Wednesday, there have now been 23 homicides in San Jose this year.

  1. This is why we used to have the best police department in the country, before Chuck + 5 buried them from which they (city / citizens) will never recover.  I am proud the POA stepped up.

How about city hall kick in a few bucks that they cut from employees.  Sure there is a lot of money after Measure B.  Shows you how much POA cares about community while city could care less.

  2. Thank God for Mayor Reed and the others. Measure B meant so much for this town. Because of it there is more money for the community. Thanks to the POA too. What the PD and FD were doing all these years – vis a vis disability pension scams – caused a lot of bad publicity. Things like this will help that. By the way as mentioned before, if Barack Obama were mayor of San Jose, he would have done the exact same thing. Mayor Reed and most of the others are good Democrats.

  3. How does this ” prescient” person pay for internet service? No one could ever employ this mental midget, although he could be a Pete Constant council aide!

  4. prescient,

Could you please explain to me how Measure B has given more money to the community?

So far Measure B has done nothing but cause court cases. The 10% given by employees is what caused a surplus, according to the city.  I look forward to your reply.

  5. prescient,
You don’t have your facts straight. The SJPOA and the SJFD have been raising money to help members of the community for decades now. These Union members take money out of their own pockets to help those in need. They also hold annual fund raisers to assist all kinds of non profits. They are to be congratulated for their loving hearts, compassion, and their altruism.

  6. prescient,

Wow. Once an idiot always an idiot!  May I suggest you run for the city council.  Since this is a council of idiots!  You would fit right in!

    • And yet you haven’t disputed the facts. Do you think Rahm Emanuel is anti labor? Sorry I couldn’t get back to you sooner, but I was working and raising a family in my hometown of San Jose. Ouch!

  7. I’m never the first to write about Measure B but once somebody starts mentioning it or the mayor, somebody’s got to step up and help people understand the facts. Anybody who thinks Measure B isn’t going to increase the money available to other community needs just isn’t being logical. The people who agree with you on other points even understand this. Rahm Emanuel is the mayor of Chicago, do you think he’s anti labor? He’s doing a lot of the same things there. If Bill Clinton was mayor here, he would do the same things. I suppose you think he’s anti labor also.

    • Wrong again prescient,

In response to observation’s post under P.O. ‘s. last “article” you were the first person to mention Measure B.
I am still waiting for your response on how Measure B created the 10 million surplus.  Yes, measure B would put more cash in the city’s pocket but if you slashed any employee’s wages another 24% it would put cash in any employer’s pocket. No one is saying it would not,  the argument is the legality of the process by which Reed wants to do it.
Had Reed at least listened to the employees’ offers the city would be saving a lot more cash right NOW without disgruntled employees and without a bunch of lawsuits to deal with. Not to mention all new employees would be in a second tier retirement system.  Look at public safety for instance.  Fire is going to be hiring approx 27 new firefigters that would have been in the second tier and when PD actually gets some applicants and hire to replace the hundreds that have left, they too would have been in the second tier.
