Is the Tied House Brewing Co. downtown San Jose"s latest restaurant casualty?
The doors are locked and all the brewing equipment is gone. While the brewery’s web site (tiedhouse.com) says they are closed temporarily for remodeling, Rosemary Colon, assistant manager at the still-open Mt. View location, says the brewpub may not reopen at all.
“We’re not sure yet,” she says.
It’s hard to imagine they’re going to cart all the brewing equipment back in and reopen. My guess is they’re done.
I say they’re remodeling. The place is packed on Sharks game day, serves up good food/brew, and can look forward to future “critical mass” developments in the downtown. If its shut for good, that would be a travesty.
It is rather disturbing to see so many businesses folding, the many vacancies in the rental market, and houses for sale. It gives me the willies because it shows the reality of how bad things really are.
I wonder if Tied House was having trouble competing with Gordon Biersch?
Reason I ask is that a buddy of mine, who has lived in the Bay Area all his life tells me that he thinks that Tied House quality is not what it was 20 years ago. My friend used to frequent the TH in Mountain View, where I would tag along when I was in town for a visit. After I moved back to the Bay Area in 2005, we started going to GB and joined their passport program. My friend told me that he doesn’t go to TH anymore.
So how does TH compare to other brewpubs?
